Our editorial standards
Japonity is an independent, Tokyo-based media outlet covering Japan’s technology, food, and businesses for a global B2B audience. Our coverage is read by importers, investors, founders, and procurement teams who need accurate, current information about Japanese companies and markets.
We follow these editorial principles:
- Independent ownership. Japonity is published by Washitsu, Inc. (株式会社ワシツ), a Tokyo-incorporated company. We are not owned by, or financially tied to, any of the companies we cover.
- Editorial separation. Our Business Matching service and our editorial coverage operate independently. Companies featured in articles do not pay for inclusion, and Business Matching introductions are not given preferential editorial treatment.
- Source transparency. Where we cite figures (revenue, market share, export data, headcount), we link to or name the original source — typically company filings (Yuho), industry associations (JETRO, METI, JFOODO), or reputable financial press (Nikkei, Reuters, Bloomberg, Japan Times).
- Human editorial control. All articles are reviewed and approved by human editors at Washitsu, Inc. before publication. We use AI tools to assist with research, translation of Japanese-language sources, and first drafts, but editorial judgment — including which stories to publish, how to frame them, and what to leave out — remains with our editors.
AI use disclosure
We use generative AI (Claude, GPT-class models) for:
- Research synthesis from Japanese-language primary sources (company IR pages, news reports, Yuho disclosures)
- First-draft writing, which a human editor then revises, fact-checks, and finalizes
- Image generation for editorial illustrations (clearly distinguished from photographs)
We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent statistics, or pretend that AI-generated text was written by a named human author. Every article on Japonity is published under our editorial team’s name (“Japonity Editorial Team”) and reflects judgments made by humans at Washitsu, Inc.
Corrections & updates
If you find an error — a wrong number, a misattributed quote, an outdated fact — please tell us at editorial@japonity.com. We aim to:
- Correct factual errors within 48 hours
- Mark substantive corrections with an “Update:” or “Correction:” note at the top of the article
- Update articles that go stale (e.g., funding rounds, leadership changes) on a rolling basis
Funding & commercial relationships
Japonity is funded by:
- Business Matching service fees paid by international companies seeking introductions to Japanese partners
- Sponsored content, which is always labelled clearly as such (“Sponsored” or “Partner content”)
- Display advertising (Google AdSense and similar networks)
We do not accept undisclosed payment in exchange for editorial coverage, links, or placement.
Our editorial team
Articles on Japonity are published under the byline Japonity Editorial Team, reflecting that most pieces are produced through our editorial workflow rather than by a single named reporter. We are based in Tokyo, with combined experience across:
- Japan-focused journalism and editorial work
- Japanese B2B sales, sourcing, and trade
- Software and product development
Bylines for individually-authored pieces will be added as our newsroom expands.
