Sengetsu Shuzo (founded 1903) in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto has brewed Kuma rice shochu exclusively for 120 years using Kuma River water. 'Kawabe' is its muroka (unfiltered) rice shochu made available in the US market, while its oak-aged 'Mugon' (10+ years) is carried by Mutual Trading. Sengetsu won a Gold Medal at the LA Wine & Spirits Competition. It is an established premium rice-shochu export brand.
